About The Photographer:

Hello, Creatives and Journalists! I wanted to share with you today some relative information about myself and the reason why I’ve enrolled in LBCC’s photojournalism course. From a young age I've always admired photography, It used to bring me so much joy to help my mother find our photos in the rows of prints ordered through Costco. The feel of slowly opening the sticky seal on the paper envelope to find the cardstock folder inside holding your photos. As this was pre-2007 my parents still used film cameras as we couldn't afford a digital camera. So opening that envelope was the first time we got to view our photos. When my younger brother was born in 2007 my parents bought their first digital camera and my love for photography blossomed. Eleven-year-old me would sneak my parents' camera and take rubbish photo after photo until I understood the basic functions of the camera.

I took my first photography class in the fall of 2010 as a freshman in high school and by 2014 when I graduated I had multiple photography classes under my belt and the opportunity to buy my first camera, a Canon Rebel T3i, I occasionally still shoot photos on the T3i to challenge my self and to treasure how far I've come in my craft. Photography is an art form and at the end of the day, the tools you use don't define your art.

Fast forward to today, I’m a hobbyist photographer enrolled at LBCC for an Art Transfer degree with a side focus on business. I'm undecided as to where I'll transfer two after my time at LBCC but I have time to figure that out. I enrolled in the photo journalism course because the digital photography course did not fit with my schedule. The other reason I joined was an interest in improving my documentary photography skills and photo marketing.

Photo journalism goals with LBCC:

Goal number one is to improve my reporting skills. I find it challenging to answer the “Wh-Questions” and then to transform them into an engaging and informitive piece. I am uncomfortable with in person interviews as an introvert and its hard to formulate my thoughts in to questions that will make the bulk of a published story. My second goal is to come up with creative captions for my photos, as it is challenging to convey the purpose or meaning behind the photos conception. My final goal is to build a stronger portfolio, diverse in documentary style photos as well as detailed shots that tell a story.

First week at LBCC:

Autumn is upon us and the weather has started to dip into cold crisp fall mornings but students and staff are bussling about campus and enjoying the newly remodeled court yard.
